Core Beliefs
We believe there is one God, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, who is infinitely perfect and eternally existent in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Gen 1:1-3; Deut 6:4; Matt 28:19; 2 Cor 13:14).
We believe Jesus Christ, who is both fully God and fully man, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, was bodily resurrected on the third day, and is now seated at the Father’s right hand where He intercedes for us (Matt 1:18-23; John 1:1, 14; Rom 8:34; 1 Cor 15:1-4; Col 2:9).
We believe the Holy Spirit indwells and empowers believers, enables them to live a holy life, and assures them of their salvation. We believe spiritual gifts are available today, but the evidence of the Spirit in a person’s life is not a particular gift but love (John 3:5; Rom 8:9, 15-16; 1 Cor 12:29-30; Gal 5:22-23).
We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired word of God and thus fully trustworthy in all that it affirms and teaches. Though we respect church tradition, the Bible is our final authority concerning what we believe and how we live (Ps 119:105; 2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet 1:20-21).
We believe human beings are created in God’s image, yet have fallen into sin and therefore are sinful by nature and by choice (Gen 1:26-28; Ps 51:5; Rom 3:23; Eph 2:3).
We believe salvation is a free gift intended and provided for all, but must be received through faith in Jesus Christ. We believe in the security of the believer, though we do not view this security to be unconditional. By God's grace, we must persevere in faith to the end to be saved (Rom 6:23; Eph 2:8-9; 1 Cor 15:1-2; 1 Tim 2:3-4; Heb 3:12-14; 2 Pet 3:9).
We believe the church belongs to God and consists of all the redeemed and only the redeemed. We believe Christ is the head of the church and we become members of the church through salvation. We believe each congregation is locally autonomous (Acts 2:47; 1 Cor 1:2; 12:12-31; Col 1:18).
We believe baptism should follow faith in Christ and that it symbolizes the washing away of sin and our new life in Christ. We believe immersion is the biblical mode of baptism. We do not believe baptism itself saves us (Matt 28:19; Acts 2:38; Acts 18:8; Rom 6:3-4).
We believe the Lord's Supper is to be celebrated on a regular basis as we remember Christ's death and look forward to His return. We believe in open communion, where all believers are encouraged to participate even if they are not members of this local church (Acts 2:42; 1 Cor 11:23-26).
We believe divine healing is available today as we place our faith in God's promises, though we believe God uses medical means to heal as well. We do not believe it is always God's will to heal in this life (Ps 103:3; 1 Tim 5:23; Jas 5:14-16).
We believe Jesus Christ will return to judge the living and the dead, but we do not know the day or hour of His return. We believe the end will occur when He returns, at which time believers will receive a new, glorified body and non-believers will be sentenced to eternal condemnation (Matt 25:31-46; 1 Cor 15:12-20; 1 Thess 4:13-18; 2 Tim 4:1).
